-1 as Superscript in LaTeX (in Evernote Markdown)

When trying the Markdown feature in Evernote, I was unable to type a superscript like following:

where there is a -1 as superscript.

I tried several times and all failed:

Failed Attempt 1
Failed Attempt 1
Failed Attempt 2
Failed Attempt 2

It turns out the to declare -1 to be an entity, you have to enclose -1 with curly brackets:

The corresponding LaTeX form of the formula above

LaTex is useful and amazing, and now that it is supported by Evernote Markdown, I will write more about it while learning.
